Meta: Workflow redesign with Runmei reduced 90th percentile STAT CBC TAT from 47 to 18 min. 65% improvement. Continuous loading, priority sorting, reflex automation.
The STAT TAT Problem
The ED hematology TAT problem is universal. We analyzed our workflow: pre-analytical (25%), analytical (45%), post-analytical (30%). Runmei addressed all three phases.
Improvements Implemented
• Pre-analytical: Runmei continuous loading eliminated “batch wait” time. STAT priority sorting interrupts running batches.
• Analytical: Autoverification cleared 69% of STAT CBCs without touch. Reflex smear prep automated, not manual.
• Post-analytical: Automated text alerts to ED for critical results within 2 min of verification.
Results
Before: 90th percentile TAT 47 min. After: 18 min. Improvement: 65%.
The ED cancelled their POC device purchase plan. Cost saving: ¥240,000 (projected POC instrument cost).
Q: What was the biggest bottleneck? A: Manual verification — eliminating this through autoverification was the single biggest gain (16 min per STAT CBC saved).
