About Rotavirus
Rotavirus is the most frequent cause of severe gastroenteritis in infants and young children under the age of five, leading to a significant number of deaths globally each year. The virus is a member of the Reoviridae family, with groups A-G identified. While groups A-C are human pathogens, Group A is the most common cause of infections. Transmission primarily occurs through the fecal-oral route from contaminated food, water, or objects. Symptoms typically include vomiting, watery diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
Test Principle
This kit uses Real-Time PCR technology. RNA is extracted from the stool specimen and then amplified using RT-amplification. The presence of the virus is detected with fluorescent probes that are specific to the highly conserved NSP3 gene of Rotavirus A, which is an ideal target for accurate detection.
The test’s design, including its ability to identify Rotavirus A, makes it a reliable tool for diagnosing Rotavirus infections in conjunction with clinical symptoms and epidemiological risk factors.
